AUGUSTA––The Maine Bureau of Human Resources, the Maine Department of Labor, the Maine Military, Community Network and Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve are hosting a Government Job and Resource Fair on June 17 at the Western Avenue Armory in Augusta.The job fair, open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will feature 40 exhibitors of employers and resources especially targeted to veterans, but the public is welcome.
This is an opportunity for service members, veterans and their families to learn about government job opportunities in Security, Law Enforcement and Dispatch, Engineering and Transportation, Social Service and Customer Services, Accounting and Tax Examining, Programming and Information Technology, Game Warden and Park Ranger Services, Nursing and Rehabilitation Counseling.
“Our state and local governments need talented, hard-working people to fill vacancies and serve the people of Maine,” said Governor Paul R. LePage. “Veterans are ideal candidates for many of these positions based on their integrity, knowledge and ability to learn, not to mention their work ethic. I encourage all veterans to take advantage of this special job fair highlighting government jobs. We need you to become part of our team.”
First Lady Ann LePage will kick off the event with opening remarks. She has been a passionate advocate for military service members, their families and our veterans in her role as First Lady. General Gerard F. Bolduc, commander of the Maine Air National Guard, will welcome the hiring agencies and governments as well as job seekers.
Veterans will be able to meet one-on-one with professional staff to fill out online applications and occupational licenses, obtain military transcripts and sign ESGR statements of support.
Participating employers include Department of Human Health and Services, Bureau of Human Resources, Maine State Police, Department of Corrections, Maine Warden Service, Portsmouth Navy Shipyard, Veteran VHA Nurse Recruitment, City of Augusta, Portland Police Department, VA Togus, Maine Sheriff's Association, Office of Information Technology, Maine Revenue Services, Bureau of Rehabilitation Services, Marine Patrol, Department of Transportation, Maine Conservation Corps and other state agencies and affiliations.
Resources include Senator Angus King's Office, Maine CareerCenters, Occupational Licensing, Maine Job Bank Registration, Military Transcripts, Hero2Hired A-Team Solutions, American Legion, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, Military Family Assistant Center, Togus VA Benefits and Medical, Togus Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Division, Maine Bureau of Veterans Services, Veterans Inc., Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program, Army National Guard Recruiting Team in Augusta and Air National Guard.
Job seekers should dress appropriately and be prepared for an interview. If available, please bring proof of military service and a resume. Registration is recommended but not required.
