Changes dedicate the highest number of customer service staff to handle the highest volume of calls.
AUGUSTA—To better serve the citizens of Maine, the Department of Labor will be upgrading its unemployment online self-service system later this year. The department will be making a number changes in advance of this upgrade in order to provide the most effective, efficient and high quality service to people experiencing job loss.
The first of these changes will occur this June. The department is changing the hours of the unemployment call center to dedicate the highest number of customer service staff to handle the highest volume of calls, which typically occur during the morning hours. Effective June 19, 2017, the Bureau of Unemployment Compensation claims center will be available from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday (except state holidays).
There will be no change in availability of Internet and automated telephone claims services. Those filing for unemployment benefits can still open a new unemployment claim, file a weekly unemployment claim and access other information about their claim, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, online at http://www.file4ui.com or file a weekly claim using the automated telephone system at 1-800-593-7660.
