PRESQUE ISLE - The Presque Isle CareerCenter announces October programs for job seekers and those who are considering training for a new career.

“Maine reached an all-time high in payroll jobs this year, and our unemployment rate has been under 4.0 percent for 23 consecutive months,” said Governor Paul R. LePage. “There is no better time to find work than now, especially as we head into the fall hiring season. Maine CareerCenters can help you update your resume, practice interview skills, or connect you with education or training, and you may qualify for free tuition. Our employers need you. Make yourself standout from other applicants—take the first step and contact your closest CareerCenter.”

Creating Winning Resumes – Fridays, October 6, 13, 20 and 27 at 9:00 a.m.

Learn how to create a professional resume and walk out the door with one in hand.

SafetyWorks! Training: Trenching and Excavating – Wednesday, October 11, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

You will learn the dangers to employees, soil classifications, OSHA requirements, and the types of protective systems to prevent cave-ins. You will also learn what is meant by “competent person”. Register at http://www.safetyworksmaine.gov.

SafetyWorks! Training: OSHA Recordkeeping – Friday, October 13, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

This class provides thorough and comprehensive six-hour training for both new and experienced safety and human resources personnel. You will learn the OSHA rule (29 CFR 1904) regarding recording and reporting work-related injuries and illnesses as it applies to your organization. This class includes several hands-on activities on how to correctly fill out the required injury reporting forms. Register at http://www.safetyworksmaine.gov.

Healthcare Job Fair – Wednesday, October 18, 9 a.m. to Noon

Come speak with representatives from the healthcare industry who have current vacancies.

CareerCenters, part of the Maine Department of Labor, offer a variety of services to help people find employment or upgrade skills. Each center provides several public-access computer workstations with Microsoft Office software, resume writing and cover letter software, Internet access and O’Net software for skills assessment. All CareerCenter services are free of charge.
